Death, Crystal Castles Remix Video

Thursday, June 11th, 2009

The White Lies guys let us know they’ve fashioned up a video for the Crystal Castles’ torrid remix of Death. The relevance now is that it accompanies a re-release of the single. Since Kunkers went pretty apeshit for this mix previously, we’re happy to have a looksie at the vid.

By the way, in case you missed our original post of this track last year, we’ve got it here for you again. Accompanying it is a minimal/experimental remix of CC’s She Fell Out by Coralcola which we kinda dig (stumbled on over at Lemur).

Lies in White with M83

Friday, June 5th, 2009

White Lies made a pretty confusing debut this year. They had some excitement-factor about them but it turned out that they are rather a latecomers of an era than pioneers of a new one. This line of UK-indie needs a heavier blood-refreshment than White Lies can provide. This way they are just another clone of the neo-Joy Division movement. Nevermind, they have some ok songs and E.S.T. which was in Gossip Girl is my favourite.

After the amazing Crystal Castles remix of their first hit, Death, now another heavyweight of a totally different scene chose to work on Nothing to Give. Anthony Gonzalez aka M83 reworked it. And believe, it’s pretty damn reworked. I mean he turned the song into something beautiful and injected a huge amount of hard sadness into it. The vocalwork is just breathtaking, the echo and the cut-up combinations of wordparts makes the whole thing apocalyptic and the never-resolved tension builds up. Brilliant. Thanks for the track to Battery in Your Leg.

White Lies & Crystal Castles - Could be a Coleridge Poem

Friday, August 22nd, 2008

I know, I know who needs this song blogged for the 10th time… I can’t not post it. It was a long time ago since I’ve heard anything new by the Crystal Castles. Sadly, it’s only a remix now and I’m not particularly fond of White Lies who are just another band of the post-post-punk/Joy Division-esque/Interpol (good) - Editors (bad) heritage. Or if I want to be a bit cruel then… anyone has any memories about Thehalf of cc Bravery? Yeah, right: “it was an honest mistake woo-huu” haha White Lies could easliy cover it or a Killers song.

On the other hand, the remix, done by the guy part of Crystal Castles, is much much better than the original! Nice work on the vocals and the synth makes it more interesting. The motor-sound reminds me of something, maybe SebastiAn. No, I know, Le Castle Vania remix of Kill the Noise’s Hey You. Nevertheless, a mediocre indie song became a cool, atmospheric disco-track.
