Don’t Doubt Delphic Remixes

Tuesday, February 23rd, 2010

Undoubtedly (har har) you already know the modernistic alt-pop sensation out of the north of england, Delphic. Now that they’ve been snatched up for many rounds of touring and some version of superstardom, the remixes have followed in droves. To our ears, a pair of Doubt edits stand out. First up, I don’t think our boys from Swissland Cryptonites could’ve knocked this out of the park to any less degree. They maintain, or perhaps even accentuate the central theme/energy of track while simultaneously propping it up from quality pop song, to dancefloor shaker. It’s been a staple in Kunk sets of late.

Not too far behind the above, and taking a different route is the Build remix. Build first slipped into our consciousness after his stellar edit of the Teenagers’ Feeling Better, some time ago. Since that time he’s emerged to be quite the purveyor of the mellow electro remake. Build is best appreciated in a state of semi-, but not total, contemplation.  Hit him up on myspace and appreciate.

All Hail the Kap, Go Ahead and Do It

Thursday, June 25th, 2009

Truly one of the nicest guys the party/music biz, Kap10Kurt (shown below at his Kunk gig here last October) has recently dropped an edit of Teenage Suicide by the fast-out-of-the-block Aussies, Clubfeet. The smooth original would be pretty tough to muck up — only question is which direction to take it — Kap hangs on to much of the ‘chilling at sunrise’ feel while making the beat more robust in alternating waves. Alltogether, yet another track for the ever expanding outdoor summer tracklist…

Superman Be Gone: Cryptonites Back on the Scene

Thursday, June 11th, 2009

One of our faves from Swiss-land, and friends of Kunk, the Cryptonites, will drop their EP (”Boots Electric”) on the world, August 3 (via usual download portals), and they want no less than the entire ipod inventory of the universe to have it playing simultaneously. So, we’re doing our share to spread some — the guys sent along their EP and we’ve posted it below.

We appreciate intelligent banging in all its forms — and the Cryptonites provide this in spades. They wanted to also give a special shout to their German buddies Saint Pauli, who remixed Boots Electric.

Worshipping Worship

Wednesday, March 18th, 2009

Been digging on Worship for a while now and this latest track stumbled on over at the work that is out cemented that view. The Dome triptych that we first heard a while back was stellar — with a slow build-up leading to alien sci-fi take over of the dance floor. And now, from Italy, Lebatman has featured a few times on the MOTU compilation and did a swerving space ride of an edit on Fat Love. Strong original, stronger edit.

If we needed any more reason to like Worship… they’re Swiss-based! Oh Switzerland, you charming soft, frothing center of Europe, you. They seem to be taking the best of France, Germany, and Italy soundwise these days and applying that fondue touch that only they can do so well.

Pimping Upcoming Acts: Kap10Kurt

Friday, September 26th, 2008

Let’s say we’re just little bit excited for next month’s epic Russ Chimes v. Kap10kurt party. Like, we’re seriously fucking excited, and i’m sure you’ll hear about it from us to no end in the next 4 weeks. But, we all need something to distract us from the imminent collapse of the world’s financial system i guess. And what a better way to ring in our new collective pauper-hood than with a party. So there. Take that! — micro credit short mortgage leverage reserve lending or what-ever-the-fuck pseudo commodities we are trading these days. But I digress.

kaptenkurt

Kap10kurt is at present well-known in NY’s lower east side and Osaka, Japan, for destroying parties with his shredding keytar/drumset performances… but he’s also made some choice remixes as well. I’m a huge fan of the track X by Class E Cal which he edited some months back. Likely you’ve also seen this one by Grafton Primary that was also worked on by fellow Schweizers, Cryptonites. Switzerland is waking up, methinks.

Cryptonites

Sunday, August 31st, 2008

Just a short one for Sunday. The Swiss dudes are back again with a track that could be easily nominated for the coolest electro song titles award: Revolver Disco. We haven’t mentioned them except for the Love Motel remix and the once in a podcast with Trippin. cryptonitesThey have been up to a lot of great things, remixing the shit out of Coldplay and Frankie Goes To Hollywood for example. Their own stuff is on the banging side of the scale but somehow I find it more appealing than the bunch of latest Ed Banger-clones. Maybe it’s because they are not from France. Listen to the new song and make friends on myspace. Revolver Disco has an awesome vibe and aggressive tension that it manages to keep up until the end. If I wanted to make a genre out of it I would say it’s ‘cruel disco’. You can imagine space cowboys in the future walking in a space pub near Mars, inserting their dna-cards into the jukebox and choosing this track to start shooting at each other with laser.

Love Motel

Thursday, April 3rd, 2008

We don’t really know too many bands from Switzerland. Now, with the awesome name of Love Motel, something caught our attention. They received quite nice remix treatment from the likes of Grum, Cryptonites, Baxter Bees and so on. Their name is not just for fun. They actually evoke a conceit with the dirty implications set in the 80s. They had their debut albums in 2005, now for their second they returned entitling it ‘Mind the Void.’ (Was out last year.) Check their remix myspace. In case you wanna download my two favourites, it’s below.
