Blinded by the Light of Salvation
I remember writing one of my very first blog posts about the Scanners (in Hungarian). A lot of time has passed since and I’m really glad that the band is still together and making stuff. Not that they are the my favourite indie band or something but there’s a lot of talent to be released I think. Their new album was out in February and the new single, “Salvation” was out in January. Now my original reason for writing about them is actually a remix by Dan Sena that I found on the DATAMIX 09 of the brilliant Designer Drugs. Of course, DD = dancefloor-madness so the Dan Sena remix is pretty epic as it can be expected from a DATAMIX. Dan Sena, based in the US, makes some exciting remixes and originals. His YYYs and Datarock remixes are cool, he has a particularly amazing sensitivity with keys and synths. His Scanners remix, on the other hand, is a definite highlight. It’s a very consciously done masterpiece of a remix that could be used to define the Kunk term of ‘intelligent banging’. The PJ Harvey-esque tragedy is saved and perfectly transmitted into a ‘running towards apocalypse’ banger that marches unstoppably and, as I imagine, drags everyone on the dancefloor. This is the kind of treatment that the Scanners need on the way to popularity.
