Russ Chimes In on Kunk

Wednesday, September 10th, 2008

So if you’re reading us you’ve probably already stumbled on the latest stellar edit by Russ Chimes which has recently popped up into blog world. Nevertheless, as Mr. Chimes himself will be playing here with the Kunkers next month (in addition to a live set by US/Swiss combo Kap10Kurt… bloody hell i can’t wait for this night!), we don’t wanna let this one go unheard.

russ chimesLe Corps Mince de Francois, heretofore unbeknownst to me, are three ladies coming out of a favorite city of ours, Helsinksi. Bitch of the Bitches gets a nice guitar and guns blazin re-edit — transforming the original slower vocal-based track into a 1980s Miami car chase — not surprising as its coming from the UK wing of the Valerie crew.

Oh yeah… and for the life of me the vocals sound exactly like the singer from CSS — i thought for a moment even it was  side project.

So Kunked Podcast #2 + Bank Holiday party love

Half of kunk skipped the pond last weekend so a slight delay in getting out #2 for y’all, but don’t worry world, you can exhale as we got off our asses for a second version of hungarian-based frivolity. Hopefully we’ve patched up the vocal levels that some commented on, and, of course, became a little less retarded. In this (bi-)week’s edition:

  • The Frail - Addiction (After Midnight Remix)
  • The Black Ghosts - Let’s Get Physical
  • Sebastian - Dog (Choreo Remix)
  • Russ Chimes - Mulsanne
  • Jaguar Love - Bats Over the Pacific Ocean
  • Van She - Strangers
  • Pony Pony Run Run - Boy Birl Surrender (summer edit)
  • Norbert Kristof - Anna

Opening topic: Hungarian language

Yes we are totally valerie crew fanboys so therefore…

We should post more Valerie crew, woot! Holding up the English side of the channel is dj/remixer/track producer, Russ Chimes. His work is not quite as ethereal as Chimes’ Gallic crew-mates — rather more on the happy electro dance tip — but is still tinged with that 80s dreaminess we Kunkers adore. If you’re a fan of Falke, Braxe, et al, then his works will be right up your alley.

Mulsanne is a straightforward lowkey assualt which successfully elicits the vibe of taking one’s Lotus out for a twilight South Beach cruise, either 20 years ago, or 100 years in the future… take your pick. It oozes summer.

Speaking of the Valerie crew, Kunk will have Anoraak out in Budapest next month, so stay tuned for flyer and all that jazz in the coming weeks.
