Kunk Is Abroad

Wednesday, November 21st, 2007

We won’t be in the lovely city of Budapest for a week now or something. Still, thank you everyone for the parties last weekend, we were drunk, had hangovers, and got exhausted, as well.
Anyway, hang on, a small kunk is coming on the 30th of November at our birthplace Vittula.

And listen to some songs.

First one is a remix from superhip bad guys from LA: Villains
And who did they remix?

A god on Earth, sex itself on stage: Michael Jackson. I knew it must happen.

Michael Jackson - Thriller (Villains TooTight Pants remix)

Another legend remixed. Seems this year Refused has a revival. This remix could’ve been better but Shark Attack from San Diego did a good job and they have taste. It takes a good taste to choose Refused.

Refused - New Noise (Shark Attack remix)

There’s the new song of The Presets. I don’t know yet whether I like it or not. It’s kinda weird but I always liked remixes of their songs more than the originals.

The Presets - My People

Some of Us Can Never Escape College

Wednesday, November 14th, 2007

With band names out there like College, the Teenagers, and the Virgins…. what’s next? The Puberty? The Kindergarteners? It’s clearly a good time to be young (and when is it NOT a good time…), but no matter I digress, College is splendid no matter how old they are. How do they sound? Well, imagine if Alan Braxe had a teenage (sorry for that word again) daughter, who snuck up to his studio while he was out of the house and recorded her own private tracks. Yeah. Like that. Wonderful franco-nostalgia-synth. Can’t go wrong.

And, lest I forget because we are so lame about actually announcing our own things on this blog. You budapest readers, this friday at Vespa club, Andrassy ut 47 — it’s your latest installment of Kunk, this time in a head to head with our indie uncle, Gumipop. Cum and enjoy!

Hard Times

Saturday, October 27th, 2007

Oink was taken down by the authorities some days ago, The Blood Brothers seem to split, Gumipop has no place now, and it’s autumn. However, Kunk is in its best shape. We had our official launch which was a ’should’ve been huge’ party though it could only be great because the circumstances were against us. We’re not complaining. We’ll do a Gumi vs Kunk night at Vespa (Nov 16) and next day we’re gonna hit Death Disco. On the 13th December the almighty Kunk 2.0 will be the place of heaven on earth at Vespa again.

Meanwhile, the biggest blogging buzz was about a new Justice remix of the Klaxons in the last week, so i’m going to stand in the row and post this song cause it’s really cool. It’s kinda preceding a new Klaxons EP in France. It has a bit more of the smooth Daft Punkish feel to it and not one of the heavier, noisier ones. Perfect for the sensitive French ladies to shake for a while.

As above so below

So The Room party gone mad. While Kunk were behind the decks stellar cores collapsed, binary stars lost gravitational contact with each other, swinging back and forth between red and blue supergiants. Black holes just grabbed whole galaxies and ate them. As above so below. I mean what the fuck happened? Jesus. Thank you Room for inviting us and you all for coming and filling the dancefloor.

Don’t forget the party on Monday (Oct 22) at Vespa (Andrássy út 47).

We can all rest on tuesday, it’s a holiday.

Kunky atmosphere, Kunky weekend

Tuesday, October 16th, 2007

From time to time we Kunkers love a good atmosphere as much as a good dance-off. Theater of Disco strides that balance delicately, and dare we say, quite successfully. These Aussies (and who the hell is not coming from Australia these days?) apparently pull off quite the live act as well — they are a theater after all. Lightweight and electro, but in a good way, YOA is the track i’ve taken to most readily… it’ll put a spring in your step on even the most damp and depressing of days.

And, where else does one need atmosphere like at that intersection of fashion and art and print, better known as The Room magazine, based here in Hungary. Uh huh, it needs atmosphere in spades — surprise, surprise, your Kunkers will be hitting up that party between 11-1 this friday night at the Merlin. So come on by and get some pre-warm up for our kick-off occurring a few days later: KUNK 1.0, on Monday, October 22 at the Vespa Club on Andrassy ut 47.

Two Songs for the Price of One

Straight outta the GLA (that’s Glasgow, yep yep) comes Big Face, who have quite the knack of creating relaxing build-up ditties that suddenly morph into indie-beat bangers. My Body Moves Faster lulls you into summertime outdoor lemonades on the porch before hitting you broadside.

As as you probably know if you have attended any Kunk gigs, we’ve got a massive, cushiony soft spot for tracks which offer you lollipops up until the point where they bite your head off.

And, speaking of Kunk gigs, you best be seeing us tonight at the Pep Mag party, or in a couple weeks at KUNK 1.0. (and, just maybe, another surprise appearance in the wings)

Catch 22

Saturday, September 22nd, 2007

Just so y’allz aware. Somehow if you already haven’t been beaten over the head with bulletins or flyer comments, KUNK 0.5 is tonight. So come ’round. And, just confirmed, KUNK 1.0 will be taking place one month from now, October 22 at our new venue — Vespa Club on Andrassy ut 47, near Oktogon. Stay tuned for details young kunkers.

And since we’re a music blog and all that, have a song! These days, when anyone mentions France, it immediately gets followed up with pontifications on Justice, Daft Punk, et al… which for me gives Stuck in the Sound all the more appeal. What’s that? No synths? Color me refreshed! A more urgent and catchy Gallic version of Arcade Fire, which is a compliment in my book. Toy Boy is their first single from the album Nevermind the Living Dead and it’s harsh and sparse all at once. Incidentally it was also remixed by Tepr which goes to show that you’re never more than one degree of separation away from the juggernaut which is the FrenchElectronicNation!

Guilty pleasures personified

Monday, September 17th, 2007

Ooh, autumn, could you be any more depressing? Right. Weather starts to suck, vacations end, school starts. In the immortal words of Late of the Pier ’suicide is in my blood…it always was’… WAIT! Don’t do it. At least, not until September 23. On that day you’re free to off yourself with your weapon of choice. But alas, keep that body of yours alive thru September 22, as it’s:
