I’m not sure if Ed Banger is over the top, or beyond the pale, or in a ditch, or blissfully unaware… could be all of these options together. I’d suggest the argument that a new way forward was needed was best crystallized by Bidabibi’s total evisceration of Busy P’s track a few months back. Whether you side up with that view or not, there’s no doubt the label now sits at the point where it needs to decide whether to either rest on laurels, or find something new or dare we say authentic.

Say what you will about Ed Banger, but Mr. Flash certainly isn’t going to be pigeonholed into any distinct or lax sound any time soon. Sounding at times slightly ‘banger-esque’, at others more akin to Mr. Oizo, and at still others rather hip-hoppish. Over the Top is his most straight up ‘dancin in the da club y’all’ track, so it’s a good place to begin. If you’re a budapest local like yours trulies, you’ll get an opportunity to make up your mind in person, if the sheer diversity of Mr. Flash will be enough to instill Banger 2.0. He just might.
