Moulinex gets Danube-y

Monday, June 30th, 2008

Cigi says: Luis, the Munich-based, Portugal-original — better known as Moulinex — will be making it Budapest-side this weekend. We’ve been posting about him for a time, now it’s really cool to see the Kollektiva guys got him for a summer show. And by summer show, I mean summery sounds and atmosphere, you know, that everyone likes: open-air, cocktails, cigarettes, whatever. Moulinex is suited for it. You can find a lot of stuff by him via Hypem, I decided to post my favourite mini-banging spacetrash song: Down and Out. Keep your ears peeled for Moulinex in 2008, he’ll be doing a shitload of awesome stuff. D.I.S.C.O. TEXAS label rules.

Brandon says: In other related news, those of you from Budapest who frequent Kunk parties know we have a weak-spot for particularly bad pop music. Like, Backstreet Boys bad. Like, I Want It That Way closes out nearly every party we throw and Everybody creeps into way too many sets. It turns out we aren’t the only boys in this town who get a kick out of the boys from the backstreets. The Headshot Boyz are also in the Ektiv crew and will open up for Moulinex this weekend — they recently did some handywork on the aforementioned Everybody that definitely turns up the heat on the original. It’s not quite up Kunk’s alley (or, backstreet) in terms of style, but we’ve got to give them credit for hitting up a fave of ours that will put a positively perverted twist into any night out upon hearing it.

Now, if a lone remix floating in blogga-land could only get Nick Carter back together with Paris Hilton, the world would be all the better for it. ;)

New Cazal Remixes - Moulinex

Wednesday, May 7th, 2008

The new single from Cazals gets heavy attention. Kitsuné did a really nice job getting artists to work on this one. On the single there’ll be remixes from many Kunk favourites: from Blamma! Blamma! and LIFELIKE till Moulinex. What an awesome release! Go and buy it.

I’m gonna post the Moulinex remix because we’ve been posting about the others recently.

Moulinex is Louis, an awesome dj guy originally from Portugal but he lives in Munich, Germany now. He grew up on great music not like idiot oldschool house or techno. He was listening to Pink Floyd, Moroder, Kraftwerk, Sun Ra. Of course he’s influenced by French stuff like Daft Punk as well. However, he is way ahead of anything Boys Noize ever made. He remixed kap10kurt, SymbolOne, Cut Copy, Xinobi and Cryptonites, lot of the bands that Kunk are fond of. Seems like they are gonna tour Austrialia with Xinobi. I suppose they are gonna have a big fanbase there. He must be huge this year.

If you wanna get into it start with the Cut Copy thing, continue with Xinobi remix, listen to the Cazals one and then move to his own songs, first Break Chops and then everything else.

Central europe in the hizzouse

Friday, April 18th, 2008

From time to time it’s good to take stock of your surroundings methinks. The Ektiv boys [post in Hungarian language] recently woke me up to the fact that I hadn’t checked in lately on Matt Modny in Vienna. His superfun MyBitchKlubb has been rocking for a couple years now, and it seems just this year he has a new venture starting up by the name of Numu (Kunk gives full approval of the logo font selection, btw ;)).  I’m liking the direction both MBK and Numu are going in terms of both guests acts and atmosphere, so keep it up Matt! Incidentally for an amusing set of pics from a mybitchklub party from last year checkout the page on my rarely-updated personal blog here. Kunk buddy Damian from Prague’s Heartbeats party was djing that night, which is why we made the trip up the Danube to be there.

Speaking of Heartbeats, it’s also gotten some traction in the past few months which is great to see. The bleep bleep revolution is in full swing Czech-side! Pete Carvell will be the upcoming guest dj there and they’ve had some killer recent acts as well, like Hostage and Tyskerhar.

To sum, I’m really happy to be rocking it here in the Central Europe these days. What we lack in a sea front, we make up with foresight, you see?  There is only one place for the future to be, and that is ahead of us. (On that tip, check back real soon on our event list as the Kunkers have a treat in store as well.)  In the meantime, we leave you with some future taste via a remix of the Cazals upcoming release, Somebody Somewhere, lovingly edited by Kunk faves Lifelike. Recent Kunk guests Blamma! Blamma! also have a remix on the release, as do homeboy from Munich, Luis, aka Moulinex.

Whew! My linky fingers are all tired out.

Back to the Future

Tuesday, March 25th, 2008

You already know how much we like Crystal Castles. You are aware as well of our love for remixers from London. The following track is around for a while (exactly from September, 2007) but I’ve just discovered it and thought that it’s so remarkably INSANE that I have to share it somehow. So get ready for the remix of Alice Practice by Futurecop! It’s sick.

Futurecop! is inspired by 80s sci-fi movies and cartoons. Sounds hip, right? They’re going to be huge so you don’t wanna miss it now. They’re a duo now but ‘Manzur Igbal’ started it alone and he learned to make music on his own! Awesome. The whole futuredisco concept was invented by a German DJ, now FutureFlashs. He coined the name ‘future disco’. Check the myspace for mix-series.

“Modern synthetic electronic Sound mixed with much Space Elements, influenced by Retro ..70 and ..80 Sounds and Samples of the TV and Pop Culture - a perfect new Sound Mix, called - Future Disco - is born. A new Dimension of ultra modern melodic but banging Space Sound rocks the whole Dancefloor.”

It’s a nice expression, I’ll stick to it. Or how post-daft sounds? Nevermind, the thing is that it’s shiny and brand new! Discodust blog parties from Germany or Valerie crew (who actually inspired the new term) from France are maybe the most well-known examples. So be prepared for artists like SymbolOne, Moulinex, Minitel Rose, and a lot of stuff from Australia cause they’ll take the dancefloor over in a short time. Kunk is on the bandwagon. We’re gonna bring future disco.
