Minitel Rose, Clancy, and Build

clancyFriend of Kunk, Clancy, has just finished an edit of Minitel Rose’s Wild Birds, together with Build. A frequent spinner at UK festivals and raves, Clancy has taken to the ‘sound of synth’ these days: kunkers first got listen to his spring mixtape some months ago and have been on board ever since.

Build on the other hand jumped into our radar after his mellow-ish but favorite of all the mass of previous Teenagers mixes out there, for Feeling Better. Of late, the two have been teaming up for some efforts and we have a good feeling about this collaboration going forward. In addition to this track, they already have a Yeasayer edit under their belt — remixes of LexiconDon, Annie, and Fear of Tigers, are also all in the works.

Have a listen and show some love!

Mutantek’s Psycho Disco

Couple days ago we’ve received a nice mail from Mutantek, an awesome producer from Mexico. What caught my attention is that he tackled The Talking Heads, their classic “Psycho Killer”. One might consider this an act of desecration, we at Kunk hq quite enjoy it. It became a cool, chopped and weird disco track. Love his Minitel Rose and Kavinsky reworks as well. The beat gets you dancing instantly and it’s not only smooth but intelligent too. I think this pleasingly monotonous and atmospheric sound could be his trademark. It was probably shaped by oceans and melting heat. He is part of the Mix Le Fun collective that is a nice addition to the great acts coming from the southern Americas.

Minitel Rose, Continue with Video

Tasteful modern French rockers that love their country’s brand of proto-internet (and flowers), Minitel Rose, just had a video done for last year’s track Continue, and sent it along. Everyone else posts videos, we should do more of that from time to time as well. Plot of this vid, directed by Syrine Boulanouar & Pierre-Edouard Joubert: Minitel Rose promoting dude wanders town promoting, then smoking, then promoting some more, then smoking some more. In the end he looks at a chick. Very cute, and of course, very French.

Pegase

Newest addition to the Valerie crew is the guy who’s the singer of the brilliant Minitel Rose. Apparently, his side project too pegasefits the Valerie crews 80s-revival and beauty-dance aesthetics. What you can expect: synth waves collide with the dance-drum rocks of the rhytmical coastline. Okay, maybe this was too metaphorical. Point is what you can’t expect: the heartfelt and at the same time coldly distant vocals. I mean, yeah, sure, you heard it in Minitel Rose probably but if there will ever be a genre like electronic singer-songwriter than Pegase‘s future stuff will surely be labeled like that. Mixing the smooth synth revival with the haunting ghostly atmosphere that makes you anxious and won’t let you sleep, Pegase is after something unique and we can’t wait to hear more. I know that we’re not gonna be the first ones to discover him, Discodust and Electrorash, among others, already did. However, my favourite track wasn’t shared anywhere so we were lucky that Pegase found us on myspace and I could ask for it. Another track is one I haven’t seen on blogs either, a remix of Empire of the Sun‘s Walking on a Dream. It was a great track by itself, the Australian lads made it to our bests of 2008 and Pegase here adds some of his own synth-y talent which makes the remix worthy to appear beside Treasure Fingers, Van She Tech and Neon Neon. Hey, so this is an exclusive! Here you go.

Of Montreal Rose

Of Montreal just got some french flava and i think it works. Gallery Piece now staggers around like a drunken synth sailor thanks to Valerie’s Minitel Rose rework. It’s one of those ‘unlikely pair-ups’ upon first considering the two bands together, but has no problem finding its feet after the first couple strains…

Now as long as Minitel can manage not to find their way onto Nasdaq and T-mobile commercials* and the like, all will remain well with the universe :)

* However Kunk will accept Minitel Rose-flavored 2000-era Nokia handset ringtones, if they really need to go all corporate ;)

Valerie on Fire!

College vs Minitel Rose. Fucking awesome pair. Now, we all know about the Valerie crew, right? College is David Greiller who’s again in love with the 80s and participated in the creation of Valerie. This winter is gonna witness his debut album Secret Diary on Futur.

The first single is The Energy Story. The brilliant Minitel Rose is cooperating on this one. Of course, we don’t wanna look like shamelessly copying Discodust, so I might mention that Valerie sent us the track and it’s so great that we can’t not post it. The synths and the rhythm makes just the right atmosphere… Beautifully sad and indifferent at the same time. I guess this is the party-closing-at-down song or the soundtrack for waking up totally hangover.

Minitel Rose EP out today

I almost forgot. Today is the day that one of our favourite Valerie artists had their first release: The French Machine is out by Minitel Rose. You can listen to a song on the Valerie blog which celebrates the release with a MR week or check the awesome track titled Medley on MR’s myspace. (Magic Powder is not really my kind of sound…) Somehow the vocals remind me of the atmospheric Klaxons stuff. Buy it!

Papier Tigre is an indie band from Nantes, France. MR made them a nice little remix, grab it.

Minitel Rose vs Fckn Crew

Trashbagskids just posted an awesome remix. On the raped side are Valerie membersMinitel Rose, taking the rapers role are Fckn Crew.

Minitel Rose are a 3-piece 80s, future disco, sci-fi retro electronic act from France. They are gonna have their first release out on the 28th of May entitled The French Machine.

Fckn Crew are from France as well and they are kinda on the banger side of the scale. Their stuff is played by Les Petits Pilous and their favourites are The Bloody Beetroots. This is remix is very heavy and fits amazingly with the vocals.

Back to the Future

You already know how much we like Crystal Castles. You are aware as well of our love for remixers from London. The following track is around for a while (exactly from September, 2007) but I’ve just discovered it and thought that it’s so remarkably INSANE that I have to share it somehow. So get ready for the remix of Alice Practice by Futurecop! It’s sick.

Futurecop! is inspired by 80s sci-fi movies and cartoons. Sounds hip, right? They’re going to be huge so you don’t wanna miss it now. They’re a duo now but ‘Manzur Igbal’ started it alone and he learned to make music on his own! Awesome. The whole futuredisco concept was invented by a German DJ, now FutureFlashs. He coined the name ‘future disco’. Check the myspace for mix-series.

“Modern synthetic electronic Sound mixed with much Space Elements, influenced by Retro ..70 and ..80 Sounds and Samples of the TV and Pop Culture – a perfect new Sound Mix, called – Future Disco – is born. A new Dimension of ultra modern melodic but banging Space Sound rocks the whole Dancefloor.”

It’s a nice expression, I’ll stick to it. Or how post-daft sounds? Nevermind, the thing is that it’s shiny and brand new! Discodust blog parties from Germany or Valerie crew (who actually inspired the new term) from France are maybe the most well-known examples. So be prepared for artists like SymbolOne, Moulinex, Minitel Rose, and a lot of stuff from Australia cause they’ll take the dancefloor over in a short time. Kunk is on the bandwagon. We’re gonna bring future disco.
