LightsoverLA

I’m going to celebrate our new, beautiful blog with a semi-comprehensive post about LightsoverLA since their remixes already appeared in our mixes and we love the shit out of them. I kinda don’t know anything about them him, except that they are a duo and he hails from Phoenix/(obviously)LA. For personal stuff (being in metal band, sandwiches, death of music industry and movies) check this interview at Ohh! So Famous! Nevertheless, in our cyberculture of name- and facelessness, they he does a pretty awesome job of creating a virtual image for himself through his sound. The sound which is amazingly diverse and have a unique feel to it at the same time. The most important compontent, taste, is almost tangible. Tastefully chosen tracks for remixing, tastefully remixed songs… you name it. It’s hard to pull of a sensitive and atmospheric, emotionally engaging sound on the one hand, and, on the other, heavy but intelligently banging shit simultaneously. I mean check out the hurtingly beautiful Stars remix, the laid-back Two Door Cinema Club, the epic-grand synth-dance of the Hurts, the schizophrenic beat of CC’s “Vietnam” and Miike Snow, the delicate atmosphere of the Delphic track or the brain-banging robotics of the Daft Punk & Does It Offend You, Yeah? mashup. Seriously, LightsoverLA is one of the big bets of Kunk for this year. If they he continues to produce tracks like these, they are he is gonna be unstoppable. I just really wish they he won’t overdo the dubstep in the future.

Despite Impending Summer: In a Miike Snow Mood

This isn’t material that’s exactly hot of the presses, however i’ve been in a Miike Snow mood of late. The Swedish/American trio with the solo artist-sounding name remain one of the freshest sounding things going nearly one year on from their self-titled first release. Perhaps not surprisingly, to my ears their sound is not so far removed from another trio consisting of two Swedes and an American, Thieves Like Us.

So, apropos of not much more than my current mood, revisit the first single, Animal, another tasty one, Song For No One, and finally, my remix of the year for 2009, for Peter, Bjorn & John’s It Don’t Move Me. May the snow continue to fall heavily this summer. They’ll be touring primarily in the US, but with occasional gigs in Europe later this year.

Redial Recharged

Not that his battery was ever low, but Aussie-land’s epic-synth magician returns with two such remixes that are superheavyweight dancefloor-destroyers. The older one is redialBarretso‘s “We Won’t Stop” which – as everyone notices – is synth car-race in the Russ Chimes-esque vein. Redial here adds his heavy drumming and own synth-banging to make it a great instance of post-banger grandeur. The newer one was exlusively premiered on also at – where else? – Trashbagskids a couple days ago, and I hope they won’t mind me sharing it, I felt compelled since this remix of Miike Snow‘s “Silvia” is so undeniably epic that a dictionary could feature a sound sample as an illustration next to the definition. The Swedish band were remixed by huge names like Fake Blood, Passion Pit and Crookers but so far this is my favourite. The minimalistic keys-vocals parts are substituted with the ultra-heavy synth-banging right after the tension is sufficiently built-up. Huge fucking explosion. One could argue that it’s cheesy, well, whatever, it got me. Expect it to appear in every Kunk set from now on. And watch out, Euro-land, Redial is on tour here from March. Also, tomorrow catch a preview of Redial’s new EP on Trashbags.
