Justin Faust: Interview, Party, Song

Thursday, February 25th, 2010

Music making is in Justin Faust’s blood, so it’s no surprise that he’s been busting out fresh tunes since he was an lil’ apple in his daddy’s eye. Speaking of lil’, we made a pint-sized interview with the man himself in advance of our long anticipated party, this Saturday in Mappa Club. The flyer basically tells the story.

justin faust and kunk

I’m sure you’ve also gotten wind of the tasty morsel which was just released by the stellar DiscoTexas guys, of Faust’s Holdin’ On single, with accompanying remixes by Moulinex, and Nightriders. So, after the jump, get a taste of what’s on that single, and if you like what you hear (which of course you will), buy buy buy!

Also after the jump, our interview. Aaaaaand, finally, the jump:

WPAHP Live at Kunk This Saturday

Thursday, February 25th, 2010

So in a couple days Kunk’s next edition is coming up, where we’ll have the brilliant Justin Faust aus München als Gast. Please be sure to RSVP at our Facebook event if you haven’t already done so and if you’re in Hungary. Of course, who’d be better to support the elegant disco-energy of Mr. Faust than Kunk’s favourite and chosen protegé, We Plants Are Happy Plants. WPAHP is our resident support guest for many many reasons. Everyone should probably have noticed by now that we are hardcore suckers for nu-sentimental synth originality and epic electronic creations. WPAHP delivers just that, every track tries to tell a tale, swimming on the synth sounds that evoke an ocean on another planet far far away. As many Kunk nights are witnesses, his live sets are perfect applications of his producing aesthetics to the dancefloor. Epic nu-disco night coming up, folks, epic. Just check out this CRJ remix, the tension escalates towards the stars, and in the end it breaks down in a fitting manner. Also, he has an official video and he donated a track to Buffet Libre’s & Amnesty International’s PEACE project. Check it out. Moreover, he has a compilation on Amazon/Itunes, popular tracks, unreleased stuff and new edits. Definetly worth your money and time.

Kunk. Party. The Twelves.

Friday, December 11th, 2009

Yeah yeah, we know. Are blogging has been, let’s say, less than prolific of late. No excuses in particular other than the usuals. Day jobs, night jobs, hand jobs, etc. However, just cos our post count is down, doesn’t mean our mojo is. In fact, quite the opposite! To wit, tomorrow, mega-excited about 12.12 with The Twelves, Kunk’n it down. Those in Budapest know there’ll be no other place to be. Support sets by yours trulies, Brandon and Cigi, plus local soaring-electro wunderkid, We Plants Are Happy Plants. It’ll be a whale of a time. And speaking of whales, we gots us a few 12s remixes below to put us all in the mood.

This Saturday: Designer Drugs Explode Budapest’s Club Life

Thursday, September 24th, 2009

Kunk’s epic Season Opening takes place in 2 days. We managed to catch Designer Drugs on their European Riot tour. They will bring the dj set that provides us with one of the coolest season openers ever and it will shake the foundations of a newly renovated and renamed club, Mappa. RSVP the event of Facebook, you’re all invited: Kunk and Datascent present Designer Drugs (USA). Supporting DD with additional sets: Headshotboyz (Ektiv), Datascent and us.

Kunk readers must know Designer Drugs well, we’ve posted quite a lot of their remixes (previous coverage). What are Designer Drugs? For one, they are white hot. Playing in every hip club around the globe, remixing everyone from Maria Carey to Little Boots, Annie and Fischerspooner and putting out superbly produced tracks… Not surprising that the tastemaker blog and label, IHeartComix signed them. Combining elegant synth and pop sensitivity with the cruel and grand bass shocks, they are definetly emperors of dancefloors and the virtual space of the blogosphere can be proud that it helped the emergance of an act like this. It’s really a wonder that they will play in Hungary. If you’re around, you don’t want to miss it. Details and taster-tracks below.

2ManyBloggas3: Annie would totally approve

Wednesday, May 6th, 2009

So we do these periodic blogga parties… the last one was ‘pretty epic’ so we decided to upscale the venue a bit and team up with fellow budapest-promoters Kollektiva to bring the 3rd edition to y’all. Usual deal: local art/fashion/music/culture blogs, lots of live projected stuff, ‘wall twittering’ (which will show up here: http://2manybloggas.com), and a helluva party.

2manybloggas3

We have the feeling if Annie was Hungarian, rather than Norwegian, that she would totally be in attendance. We also have the feeling that if this version of Antonio (Designer Drugs, yo!)  were not so addictive, we would not post it after 2 billion blog years have passed. But so it goes. Incidentally, participating are:

Grum Comes

Wednesday, December 17th, 2008

Er… you catch my drift. Unless you’ve been under a wet rock you haven’t been able to avoid the awesomeness emanating out of this young man’s lappy in the last half-year. His edit of Anoraak’s Nightdrive with You vaulted the track into iconic status, while his broad assortment of other remix work has been no less solid, and we’ve touched on it round here before. Now his originals have been burning it up as well, it wasn’t long ago he topped out the hypem charts on the back of the infectious, cowbell-laden, Woah,  which has inspired some amusing dance videos of its own. On top of all that he’s fresh of gigs in New York and a tour through Australia. Not bad for a kid from Leeds, eh?

So suffice it to say the Kunkers are totally stoked to be rocking it this saturday with Grum. A wicked set will be on tap for sure, just bring some cowbell to go along with that electro :) … a great kick-off for the winter break.

There’s so much out there already from Grum on das Internetten, so we’ve decided to go with the winner of the Palms Out remix contest on Woah from last month along with a funny yet funky fresh conflaboration of Grum with Surkin, mixed by another fave of ours, the Cryptonites.

Kap10kurt + Moulinex, like Chocolate and Peanut Butter

Monday, October 13th, 2008

Kap10kurt is coming! And we’re stoked about that. Although,  they’ll be travelling via Iceland so let’s hope they don’t drown in an expanding pool of hyper-inflated Krone in the Blue Lagoon before coming here. Assuming that doesn’t happen, however, you can expect an Opal-fueled keytar and synth orgy in less than two weeks time in our fair city by the Danube and not-yet-collapsed-into-financial-oblivion-but-give-it-a-few-weeks economy.

Of course Moulinex needs no introduction. The Munich-based, Portuguese-born remixer extraordinaire pretty much lovlies up everything he touches. In this case it’s the latest to come out of Kap10Kurt land, which follows upon his Dangerseekers single/vid from last year which got a wholla lotta love. Graci a la rash in the fashion of electro.

The October 25 will see K10K followed up by Russ Chimes. Just in case you needed more information about that. Which of course you probably don’t by know, but nevertheless you will still get. :)

Everyone (including our plants) excited about tonight’s party

Saturday, September 20th, 2008

2manybloggas2If you’ve noticed it’s been slightly slow here in kunka-land over the past few days, you’re not alone! We’ve noticed too. But we hope the ‘ole “working our asses off almost 24/7 in the past week in anticipation for saturday’s 2manybloggas2 party” is gonna cut the mustard as far as excuses go. Because, frankly, it’s the only excuse we’ve got. But srsly, Cigi and I are gonna have to mainline some adrenaline this evening to keep the brain circuits zapping. Red Bull ain’t got nothing on pharmacy grade adrenaline.

Among tonight’s music acts will be a live set by local zany-boy-done-good-with-keyboard, Peter, aka We Plants Are Happy Plants. (We’re still not sure how he picked the name but have a feeling it occured during an electro-revalation on peyote.) We’ve got one of his newer tracks, UITC, a soaring march of a song, to share with you ahead of tonight’s fest. Listen, enjoy, and back to normal Kunk updating from next week!

weplantsarehappyplants

Btw, we were just in formed that UITC in this case is short for Up In the Clouds, which pretty much fits the bill in this case.
