Florrie Gets Fausted

So this Florrie girl has a song called Panic Attack which clearly has some muscle behind it in terms of flexing up on the remix front. Some nice names have had a go including Falke and Bitfunk. Thankfully, Justin Faust also jumped in to spin his magic and in the humble opinion of our ears, saves the track — or at least makes us think a lot less about the slightly inane lyrics. Might even go so far as to say he should release this entirely sans vocals, chop in some sweet 70s sample loops, label it as 2001-era Kylie Minogue and own it outright. We thinks it would go down quite well at that angle.

Well, we’ll leave the additional commentary as it stands for your consideration –  for the moment, simply classify this as some more wickedly fun electro-pop from the Bavarian wizard and keep your ears peeled for his next effort!

Justin Faust, Silk Cocoons, and Montauk

On the upstart Brilliantine label via amaxing.fm is a track by Sweden’s Montauk, Holiday. Among that single collection is a pretty rad remix by fave of Kunk, and party guest last month, Justin Bieber Faust. We’re consistently pleased with Faust’s admission that he ‘leaves the banger-making for others’, since this track makes no apologies in continuing his tradition of silky-smooth, synth-infused disco romps. Straight, smart-electro dance from a dude at the top of his game right now.

US-peeps will be super pleased to have the chance to see the aforementioned February Kunk guest, along with March Kunk guest, Xinobi, together in New York on April 24. How sweet is that!?

And, for a little more info, check out our Justin Faust lil’ interview, made last month.

Justin Faust: Interview, Party, Song

Music making is in Justin Faust‘s blood, so it’s no surprise that he’s been busting out fresh tunes since he was an lil’ apple in his daddy’s eye. Speaking of lil’, we made a pint-sized interview with the man himself in advance of our long anticipated party, this Saturday in Mappa Club. The flyer basically tells the story.

I’m sure you’ve also gotten wind of the tasty morsel which was just released by the stellar DiscoTexas guys, of Faust’s Holdin’ On single, with accompanying remixes by Moulinex, and Nightriders. So, after the jump, get a taste of what’s on that single, and if you like what you hear (which of course you will), buy buy buy!

Also after the jump, our interview. Aaaaaand, finally, the jump:

WPAHP Live at Kunk This Saturday

So in a couple days Kunk’s next edition is coming up, where we’ll have the brilliant Justin Faust aus München als Gast. Please be sure to RSVP at our Facebook event if you haven’t already done so and if you’re in Hungary. Of course, who’d be better to support the elegant disco-energy of Mr. Faust than Kunk’s favourite and chosen protegé, We Plants Are Happy Plants. WPAHP is our resident support guest for many many reasons. Everyone should probably have noticed by now that we are hardcore suckers for nu-sentimental synth originality and epic electronic creations. WPAHP delivers just that, every track tries to tell a tale, swimming on the synth sounds that evoke an ocean on another planet far far away. As many Kunk nights are witnesses, his live sets are perfect applications of his producing aesthetics to the dancefloor. Epic nu-disco night coming up, folks, epic. Just check out this CRJ remix, the tension escalates towards the stars, and in the end it breaks down in a fitting manner. Also, he has an official video and he donated a track to Buffet Libre’s & Amnesty International’s PEACE project. Check it out. Moreover, he has a compilation on Amazon/Itunes, popular tracks, unreleased stuff and new edits. Definetly worth your money and time.

Songs in the key of Awesome

We are pretty sure that regular bloginess will happen in due time. But, life is life. We’re slow and stuff. Paleolithic, one might argue. But don’t let our sedimentary nature fool you into thinking we aren’t all up in the grill of synth-flavored disco. Na-ah. Twitter to the hand, girl, please.

Below are three tracks we’re sure you all have seen on your various favorite internet destinations. They also happen to be faves of ours. Two of the three remixers (Anoraak, Russ Chimes) were here together last november for a night of insanity (pics or it didn’t happen, i know, i know)… and the third, Justin Faust, will grace the shores of Kunk next February 27. How’s that for rawk?!

All three mixes are wicked in their own way, and per usual have been getting megalove across bloggaland. Btw, don’t forget to give some love to the italians, since they do it better and everything, makers of the original track which Faust mixed: Fare Soldi!

Sunset City

We’ve already covered some of Parisian Bestrack‘s efforts, with their remix of Tesla Boy and the recent edit of their Wishmaker by Worship. This day, however, marks the release of their first EP, Sunset City on Bouchemiture Recordings, the label of our beloved Justin Faust. With remixes by Louis La Roche, et al, Sunset City could be described as a mix between Brandon’s funny expression of cloud city disco and the decadent fading-sunlight cheesiness of the 80s in the manner of the brilliant Russ Chimes and others. Oh yeah, you can feel the soft palm of French touch and the cabrio sportscar running along LA on a highway of light up to the sky. Synthy funk and disco plays elegantly from the radio. In other words, get the EP (Beatport) while it’s still hot! And it’s fucking hot.

Well Played, Herr Faust

Justin Faust is making some of the smoothest synthy-disco around these days… and he just tickled our inbox with some recent edits. Leeds-based Edwin Van Cleef‘s I Want You is a strong original no doubt — so strong that i think Faust’s choice to moisten and lengthen it a bit serves it up as a nice complement — delivering it from the sweaty indoor floor to the outdoor breeze of a boat or rooftop party. Rondo Parisiano by the French baroque electro-stringers SomethingALaMode (out on Yellow Records soon) is re-crafted straight for the clubs; likewise with Swissland-based Division Kent’s Salty (released on If/Then Records).

Some top choices again well served by Herr Faust, who has recently returned from a US gig in brooklyn’s Studio B, and closer to home last month at Myyy Bitch Klub in vienna town. And trust us, it’s only onward and upwards this fall!

Frankmusik is Better Off with Justin Faust

Newest queer-dance-pop sensation Frankmusik gets a lot of love from the blogosphere and fellow musicians too. Naturally, we love his stuff too. My favourite is a sad one, Done, Done but the charts need hits and Better Off As Two is a perfect justin faustdancefloor filler if someone has enough good-will to appreciate the beauty of pop music. The single drops in April and you can check the video below. Now, Justin Faust is like a total fit for our blog (post), if you consider our love for smooth, tasteful disco stuff. You know, he was remixed by Russ Chimes, he remixed College, DVAS, Electric Youth, BMX, Daft Punk even Britney… Lot of creativity and production. My feeling about a new dj is like…I’m curious if he or she can present a taste in choosing songs to remix. I think it takes thought and passion to struggle with tradition, influences and stuff and if a dj (or a musician, more generally) can show me a good semi-narrative of songs, tell a great story about his taste or something in remixes or sounds than I’m ready to accept it. Justin Faust with his amazing collection of tracks is ready shake the clubs. This Frankmusik rework which he just sent to yours truly, Kunk, is a cool synth-disco transformation of the original in the french touch fashion. Dig those keys!

PS. We didn’t know when we received the track that it’s made for/gonna be on the another remix project, Proyecto Batidora from the amazing Buffet Libre guys. Way to go!

Lots of Things We Like

justin faust, buffet libreThings we like: breakdancing supergroups, Justin Faust, the Buffet Libre dudes. Is it possible to get that all together in one super fun package? For shizz. The second incarnation of the Buffet Libre Rewind mixes will come out soon and they’ve kindly sent a little preview in the form of Rock Steady Crew’s Hey You done up by Munich-based up-and-comer Justin Faust. (check out the dust for much more of his work)

The edit is good stompin’ fun and if Rewind 2 can even just barely replicate what version 1 did, it’ll be another job well done. A few from version 1 are staples to this day at kunk parties… we want more!

And how cute are the kiddie photos! (please spare the perv commentary ;))
