Chewy Chocolate Cookies attack Digitalism

Saturday, May 10th, 2008

Everyone loves Digitalism. They are so cool, even cooler than Justice. The Chewy Chocolate Cookies are from London/Paris with an awesome sound that is easy to recognize and they are so nice that they sent us their version of Idealistic which was the best track on Digitalism’s debut. The starting drums are soooo heavy, we’re gonna play this song a lot. CCC aren’t on the bandwagon of the French stuff, for me they are representatives of the more experimental and non-compromising trend of British new electro like South Central. It shows in the bands they mixed so far: CCC remixed Cazals, Genesis by Justice, The Whip, etc and Danger + Buy Now remixes are on the way. Their EP came out on Ekler’o’shock records in February entitled Pepites (buy it). Give them myspace love and check their blogs, you can buy their remixes and do other fun stuff.

Minitel Rose vs Fckn Crew

Sunday, April 27th, 2008

Trashbagskids just posted an awesome remix. On the raped side are Valerie membersMinitel Rose, taking the rapers role are Fckn Crew.

Minitel Rose are a 3-piece 80s, future disco, sci-fi retro electronic act from France. They are gonna have their first release out on the 28th of May entitled The French Machine.

Fckn Crew are from France as well and they are kinda on the banger side of the scale. Their stuff is played by Les Petits Pilous and their favourites are The Bloody Beetroots. This is remix is very heavy and fits amazingly with the vocals.

Anoraak Drives the Flow

Monday, April 7th, 2008

That soft summertime pulse. Sandy blonde hair, slightly feathered, slightly… just messy. Lost in a mishmash of 8-lane highways. Having a vague plan to go “somewhere near Santa Monica.” Anoraak taps into that seemingly inbred French ability to consume, digest, reformulate, and spit back out sonically brilliant amalgamations of Southern California life in the early 1980s. Seriously, I’ve given up trying to understand how they do it. I guess Baywatch was good for something right?

You’ve probably already picked up this track floating around somewhere. It’s the harbinger of what I can only surmise will be a smooth-as-silk EP or album in the coming months. A tinge of the Knife at the front end, and a tinge of bang at the back, this track should satisfy the spectrum of your synth dance impulses.

Anoraak is hitting some various Western European parties in the coming months, so go check him out… if you’re in the neighborhood.

Irony & Sex

Sunday, March 30th, 2008

Continuing our series of absolutely sick remixes from the UK. Revolte is a French duo (famous among other things for remixing Voyager by Daft Punk and being on a Kitsuné compilation). According to DiscoDust they rarely work face to face together, they do the stuff through the internet, and the two of them have completely different approaches to music. GRUM is a producer guy from the UK who had started with 80s funk stuff a while ago. So now the strangely named GRUM (after mixing Late of the Pier, Armand van Helden, Kings of Leon, Love Motel) took this already cool track and created a hybrid of dancefloor-filling electro and weird sounds, synths, chopped vocals, etc (kinda feels like a twisted SebastiAn rework). Check GRUM’s own tracks as well and the We Are Terrorists remix of the same Revolte track too.

But canz i dans if it don’t bang?

Monday, March 24th, 2008

Maybe the question answers itself (that is: NO), however I can’t help feeling there is some bedroom jockey out there somewhere who can hit the ‘atmosphere versus dancibility’ ratio square square on the head. You know what i mean. Bangers all start to blend together — but other stellar, more nuanced, however less banging productions lack the ‘punch’ to roll the dance floor. Good for ipod buds only. Shame. Maybe Cut Copy and Midnight Juggernauts are already there, i don’t know.

I think i’m most closely referring to the likes of Fred Falke, whom i’ve adored for years yet shun at parties. But it shouldn’t be that way. Adeyhawke, College, and many of the other awesomes highlighted at the equally awesome valerie blog are right there — so close — but again not juiced enough for the floor. Then again, maybe that’s just it, maybe it’s ‘the floor’ that needs to change. I’m more than willing to be convinced.

In the meantime, loving me some of the aforementioned Adeyhawke and a Falke track from a few years back.
