My Friend, Adi
So this time, still suffering from the mind-blowing awesomeness of The Twelves last night, I’d like to invite everyone to listen to and the Budapesters to attend the gig of this new band. The second edition of the ‘My Friend’ series is about Adi. Adi is one of the guitarists of The Moog. Actually, he started to play covers (haha yeah, HIM, Muse, Placebo, to list a few) with Tonyo, the singer, before The Moog was called as it is now and even before it had a drummer. I’d love to get my hand on the cassettes they are hiding. But this post is not about The Moog but about a…umm…’side-project’ under the heavy name of Haunebu. Nazi UFO’s anyone? They must go on a tour with Oneida. Just imagine all the heavy sounds in ‘Oneida and Haunebu on tour’. Adi is one of the hearts of Haunebu’s sound. He represents something of rock and roll that didn’t become a joke by the 21st century. Something of the heaviness and the ‘fuck you’ that doesn’t come from the show or the show is a show of sincerity. This gives edge to Haunebu’s grungey-stoner-garage stuff and Adi’s uncompromising attitude is interconnected with the music’s one time hypnotic, another time deep dirty feel. The songwriting seems a bit rough at first but on second thought, it is responsible for much of the charm and beauty. There is a fine line that band-in-making has to strike between freshness and craftsmanship. Thanks to the driving force and the anxieties of the guys tearing up their instruments, each of them his own, they make the guitar scream, the drum roll, etc as honestly as they can within the boundaries of the songs. Adi here, as well as elsewhere, stands for much more than the oh-so-many-times-opprobriated leather jacket and skinny jeans, Haunebu, far from being ‘complete’ can seem like a jaggernaut on the horizon. I don’t mean to be nostalgic for some imaginery era when rock music was so very real, no, but I think I can easily appreciate anyone who doesn’t give a fuck about make-up, glamour, etc and spits to the ground after drinking a shot.
