Still Loving Valerie

Friday, February 6th, 2009

Great times for the cross-remixing, synth loving, rising star collective of Valerie. For one, Anoraak, Russ Chimes (currently partying with D.I.S.C.O.TEXAS) and College finished their USA tour. For two, Anoraak and College are headed to Australia soon. Meanwhile, one of the UK Valerie-relatives Futurecop! are touring USA and have recently been signed by IHeartComix. Their EP is out: The Unicorn and the Lost City of Alvograth.

Cross-remixing: Anoraak remixed Class of 1984 and The Outrunners reworked the best track from College’s debut She Never Came Back (it came to my attention btw that the amazing girl vocals are done by Electric Youth’s Bronwyn). Now that’s what I call a collective! Ok, I kinda feel confused now. I bet that the USA is gonna tour The Outrunners while they are gonna be remixed by the UK and feature some vocals by Futurecop! Point is, the Anoraak remix is beautifully crafted and The Outrunners did an impressive job on the College song.

Above is a chance to catch Anoraak in this Eastern-maybe-Central-nearly-Western-Europe area and it is tomorrow! He’s gonna play at Myyy Bitch Club in Vienna. And guess what, the Brandon half of Kunk is attending so I declare this party officially a must-be-there one. Sorry for the lack of sophisticated language use, not getting enough sleep nowadays.

In the Future We May or May not Have Cops, But Next Month Surely So

Friday, January 16th, 2009

This post serves two purposes. First, to point out that tomorrow night at Trafo (for the Budapesters among you) we’ll be doin’ our thang, this time with the theme ’spacesynthdisco’. Right, right, color y’all surprised i’m sure on that choice of music. Damian, who’s put on friend of Kunk party, Heartbeats, in Prague, will be here to join us along with locals Popbitch and Datascent. You’ll be treated to the usual fare of 80s-flavored dance synth madness, including the likes of Futurecop!, et al.

kunk space synth disco

And what was that band I mentioned? Futurecop? Complete coincidence, i’m sure, that your Kunkers will be playing alongside them next month… woot! That is our not so discreet second purpose of this here post. Mark your calendars for February 14, it’ll be a love-y dove-y valentine night with those masters of synth disaster from the UK. Speaking of, I thought it time to pull together a little recent mp3 action from FC, including a remix of NASA that we’ve been digging a lot of late, by the appropriately-named, Discoballistic.

Futurecop! Can Molly Ringwald-up Anything

Tuesday, October 21st, 2008

Now we are all familiar with Futurecop smoothly synthing-out artists related to their neck of the woods, i.e. juicy layered Molly Ringwald disco. However this jump over to hip-hop land shows homeboys can lay it down on just about anything. I don’t know if you’ll be hearing this in joints where Yo Majesty would be heard otherwise, but you certainly will on our floor. Will this be another case of rap/hip-hop/whatever assimilation to unsuspecting blogga-house blabla dance floors by way of stellar remix? We shall see. Thanks to the tooth that no one can find.

We Have Seen the Future, and It Will See Superman Face Off Against a Lethal Cop

Friday, October 3rd, 2008

cryptonitesIt’s been too long since we did a Valerie-themed post (yeah, a week or whatever right?)… so let’s throw some Futurecop! your way. Actually what merits this post is not so much the Valerie aspect, but rather the recent stellar edit by our Swiss brethren Cryptonites laid down on NASA. Smooth, and a bit glamorous somehow, i see this song as fitting into a Frank Sinatra-attended, cigar and cocktail party from the year 2097. In that era, they won’t be able to blame it on the bossa nova anymore, nope. You can’t dance the the bossa nova while wearing a bulky oxygen helmet with thick radiation proofing. It’s just not elegant.

Chex out our previous Cryptonites love HERE. And enjoy the original track as well, which is smooth as hell.

Back to the Future

Tuesday, March 25th, 2008

You already know how much we like Crystal Castles. You are aware as well of our love for remixers from London. The following track is around for a while (exactly from September, 2007) but I’ve just discovered it and thought that it’s so remarkably INSANE that I have to share it somehow. So get ready for the remix of Alice Practice by Futurecop! It’s sick.

Futurecop! is inspired by 80s sci-fi movies and cartoons. Sounds hip, right? They’re going to be huge so you don’t wanna miss it now. They’re a duo now but ‘Manzur Igbal’ started it alone and he learned to make music on his own! Awesome. The whole futuredisco concept was invented by a German DJ, now FutureFlashs. He coined the name ‘future disco’. Check the myspace for mix-series.

“Modern synthetic electronic Sound mixed with much Space Elements, influenced by Retro ..70 and ..80 Sounds and Samples of the TV and Pop Culture - a perfect new Sound Mix, called - Future Disco - is born. A new Dimension of ultra modern melodic but banging Space Sound rocks the whole Dancefloor.”

It’s a nice expression, I’ll stick to it. Or how post-daft sounds? Nevermind, the thing is that it’s shiny and brand new! Discodust blog parties from Germany or Valerie crew (who actually inspired the new term) from France are maybe the most well-known examples. So be prepared for artists like SymbolOne, Moulinex, Minitel Rose, and a lot of stuff from Australia cause they’ll take the dancefloor over in a short time. Kunk is on the bandwagon. We’re gonna bring future disco.
