Grum Formula on All Cylinders Again: Tommy Sparks
Wednesday, August 5th, 2009Highest played track in July according to my iTunes? Grum remix of Tommy Sparks‘ Miracle, by a mile. It’s kinda flown under the radar in blogville but it’s been a staple in my sets the past month. Kudos to Paris LA friendly (who else?) for getting permission to go public with it last week… as such it’s about time it gets heard by even more.
Readers of this blog are by now more than familiar with UK-based Grum — he was guest DJ at Kunk’s december party last year and has been criss-crossing the globe before- and after-ward.
Even though he may follow a formula of sorts — one shouldn’t consider that negatively — Grum’s remixes are not formulaic, they’re inspired. Beginning even prior to his epic edit of Anoraak’s Nightdrive With You, he’s been consistently able to drop an irresistable electro-pop-edge dance layer onto everything he touches. In fact, if ‘irresistable electro-pop-edge dance’ was a gold standard, i’ve no doubt whose mug would be etched into the gold bar right now.
Anyhow, enough gushing, i guess i just had let loose my inner-13-yr-old girl for the day. (No, and I don’t mean in an Austrian way! Shame on you for thinking that
)
