The Faint is Back

Friday, August 1st, 2008

In 1999 Blank-Wave Arcade was a great underground hit. Not that I personally have this experience cause I was only 16 and listening to Nirvana back then. Same thing with Danse the faint fasciinationMacabre. In 2001 was huge and it was dominant in the club scene but who cared I was into Radiohead and Refused. I think I first heard The Faint around 2002-3 when disco-punk was popular here. Radio 4, House of Jealous Lovers, early !!! It was definetly fun. But as you know, it wasn’t supposed to last. The Rapture and !!! have made a successful career since then and after 4 years The Faint gives it a shot.

The Faint’s next album entitled Fasciinatiion is gonna come out on the 5th of August on their label: blank.wav (they left Saddle Creek). The first single The Geeks were Right is flying around on the internet for a couple weeks now and there are a some remixes for it. First the super-hip Boys Noize vs D.I.M. In my extermely humble opinion this remix sucks badly. Like the German guys just have a pattern named ‘how to make very cool and bass-driven weird-synth club-anthems’ and just forced it upon the song (okay, nice work on the vocals but that’s the least). On the other hand, the Does It Offend You, Yeah? one bangs like hell. It’s banger but a good, powerful one. The third song is another preview from the album Mirror Error. I haven’t decided about the album yet, it’s not nearly as good as the last Rapture or !!! but maybe it’s not that outdated.

Baby, Babe I’ve Loved You a Long Time

We’ve posted about both of these acts. One is Does It Offend You, Yeah? (post), the other is LIFELIKE (post1, post2). The Epic Last Song, the last song of DIOYYs’ album got remixed by the French guy Laurent Ash. This remix sounds so great…i can compare it to CFCF (like i did with his Presets remix). It’s a laid back summer love song for hot nights, when you can run on green fields, watch stars, etc, when everything feels nice and easy and only the air is heavy. It has a discoish angle like the slower songs of The Teenagers or whatever.

Does It Offend You, Yeah?

‘You Have No Idea What You’re Getting Yourself Into’ is the awesome title for the full-lenght debut of DIOYY gonna be released 17th March. On the wave after the sad disappearance of Death from Above 1979 who had one of the best album in 2004, DIOYY managed to get ex-member Sebastian Greinger for the vocals on their biggest hit so far: ‘Let’s Make Out’ (video).

DIOYY is two guys from Reading, UK and they have one of the most uplifting sound mixture of electro and punk attitude, screaming and synths, dancey stuff and guitars. On one hand their electro sound is like that fancy stuff from French and Germany, on the other hand they are definetly British and they rock and they’re original. Their remix-storage includes Bloc Party, Muse and The Racounteurs. They also covered ‘Whip It’ by Devo.

The debut sounds fresh and feeds of a wide-range of styles and bands. From the dancefloor blowing Digitalismesque ‘Battle Royal’ through the could-be-indie-hit ‘Dawn of the Dead’ and to the britpop-influenced ‘Epic Last Song’. One thing I miss is the earlier version of ‘Doomed Now’. The album version is less powerful.

The song below is the next thing you’ll keep hearing and requesting in clubs in the next couple months.
