Database and the Twelves

Tuesday, August 4th, 2009

Database just hit us up with a few remixes by uber-prolific remixers, The Twelves (who btw are putting out the most tasteful French-electro-pop-tinged remixes this side of Normandy). Their Beaches and Friends EP will drop in August via Itunes and the title track’s got a little bit of the disco goin’ on for it. On top of that they’re about to set out on a big ole tour with French Horn Rebellion across the US of A. It was only a matter of time.

Speaking of matter of time, the Twelves themselves are frequenting europe on a regular occasion and those locals among us in Budapest might just pay attention during late fall as we might have a latin invasion on tap (details tba). Their Noah and the Whale remix keeps the bar raised exactly where they set it long ago.

Database Keeping Brazil on Form

Tuesday, July 14th, 2009

database brazilJust got some tasty morsels from Brazil’s Database, who’ll be touring the US soon and have a single to be released on Southern Fried records momentarily (A French Winter). The original is a foamy number evoking a little bit of Braxe, with Yelle-esque pop charms residing just beneath the surface. No surprises at the track’s title as you can see.

The Juan MacLean makeover of Blag Flag got a fair amount of blog love — though i’ll raise my hand for the Database version — a bit more restrained but cleaner and more accessible, at least by these tired old ears. Radio Ladio is hardly new to remix action and the Mae Shi edit still remains my pick of the litter but the Brazilian’s give it a solid, dark and driving, effort.

All in all, between them and the Twelves, Brazil is still on its game these days and i look forward to either act hitting it euro-side round these parts.

MMMatthias is on Fire!!!

Friday, April 10th, 2009

Party like it’s 1981! MMMatthias is slowly becoming our favourite German producer. This time he took a Database song, mmmatthiasMiami and remixed it, calling it ‘1981 remix’. The rework is awesome! I mean I’m pretty sure that it’s better than the original. Jesus here I am, at 0:55 when the real rhythm came in I started bouncing in front of my laptop. This remix is just great, somehow heavy and smooth at the same time, it’s like a track for really really hot summer nights. Maybe beach parties or swimming pool with acid or something. Get ready for some serious disco-action on this one.

Rounding up Kunkmail continued: #6 Database feat. Bonde Do Role

Sunday, September 14th, 2008

This song is already posted like a thousand times but since every new post is helping the artists and I like and it was sent to us via email I’m gonna do another review in addtion to the lot out there.

database

Brazil is kinda the center of South American electro, as you might already be aware of it. Now is the time for Database to team-up with fellow Brazilian Bonde Do Role for a song about Miami. The natural comparison is CSS but this track is rather like early electroclash. With the weird synth and the robotic fashion-feel, it’s music for catwalks. Has this sexy, dancey, space-age vibe which makes it sound more like Miss Kittin and Berlin than South America and Lovefoxxx. Of course, nothing outdated, everything is totally fit for the new requirements in electro/dance music. Lot of credit to Database duo who impressed us last time with their Scenario Rock remix.

Gmail roundup: ADO!, Hedluv, Database

Monday, July 7th, 2008

It’s getting tougher to keep up with things on the email front, and although we get a fair amount of shizz that we’d like to post… the usual stuff, namely: our own party organizing, schoolwork, and day job stuff, can sometimes restrict blog time. That being the case we’re starting up a periodical email round-up post to make sure the good stuff gets heard! Even if not in the dedicated post format that they deserve. And just to show how much we all have sold our soul to Google, were calling it the Gmail Roundup.

ADO! — Certifiably heavy bangers that are guaranteed to rattle your coffee cups. You may not want to rock out with your cock out for too many tracks in a row like this as one is enough to return you to sonic baseline, but lord knows a return to baseline is needed now and again. And, yeah, did i mention this is h e a v y? I think so. Like an even more freak-out version of South Central, if that were possible.

Hedluv — So personable and cute, and absolutely witty, Hedluv’s latest foray into casio rap pop meets a little KC and the Sunshine as backing. Works lovely. The Smokin’ Ban captures those inevitable moments that make nicotine-addicted friends out of nicotine-addicted strangers.

Database — Lucio from Brazil’s Database wrote us not long ago about posting one of their tracks and they’re definitely going to show that Australia isn’t the only country that can rock it in the southern hemisphere. Very much ‘french electro’ sounding which you may or may not be tired of hearing but one thing is for sure, if you’re in Brazil you’d want to be rocking at these fellas’ parties. From the looks of it they’re bringing the shit down.
