Burns remixed by Fred Falke

Wednesday, September 16th, 2009

Sorry, Kunkers have a lot on their minds, preparing for next week’s Season Opening with Designer Drugs. However, Linus Loves (about whom we will make some announcements later) sent over an awesome remix by Fred Falke. On the remixed side is LL’s protege, the blogosphere’s favourite, Burns. You know, we are suckers for both of them, so, in combination the fun is exploding. The result is a hypnotic future-funk-disco track that is gonna get many bodies moving on/to dancefloors. Now, more officially, after watching the video for the Teknique (video for First Move here), go over to Beatport and buy the EP. Believe me, you should, these might be ones of those late-summer clubbing anthems that are rarely done well but in this case, they are amazingly atmospheric. Here goes the enchantment:

Burn it Down, Build it Back Up

Thursday, June 25th, 2009

So let’s follow up Cigi’s hate post with a like post. Really like the new-ish direction the latest Burns inbox-hitter takes. A bit less on the mental tip as with some previous tracks, a bit more on the warm cozy house-y footstomper, with some 80s (what else) flair. Actually i think it would blend pretty seamlessly with party tracks that were coming out in that turn of the millenium era (ie. Modjo, Spiller, etc)… and that’s a positive.

These days Burns is making the European club rounds, including a recent one with friends of Kunk, Caravan Disco, last month with Russ Chimes. His Turb EP is available on beatport.

Question: What do Burns, break dancing, and Beth Ditto have in common?

Tuesday, June 2nd, 2009

Answer: this post. Linus Loves just passed on the vid for Burns‘ track Turbo, which is like… rather, which is, a wacked-out yet synced-up trailer to Breakin 2. At the same time he put in our dirty little hands a remix of The Gossip’s Heavy Cross. A pretty straightforward throbber (said the bishop to the altarboy) — we like. Have a looksie and a listen.

Burning up the Passion Pit

Saturday, May 30th, 2009

You might know this band, they’re called Passion Pit. They kinda mix faggy electro stuff with the crazy Canadian indie aesthetics. They are the MGMT of 2009. They look like a band who should play weird folk music and they actually have vocals like Arcade Fire. So they are highly bloggable and the world yields: they are frequently blogged. They are blogged at Pitchfork where their Manners debut received 8.5 That’s a pretty high alt-bro score, isn’t it? Not gonna blog about the album because I didn’t have the time to listen to it. I’ve been listening to the Sparklehorse vs Danger Mouse record and My Latest Novel and stuff. Yeah and Sunset Rubdown. And Grizzly Bear which is awful. Nevertheless, Linus Loves sent this remix over some time ago, Burns (post1, post2, post3) transformed The Reeling. This has an authentic video, very 80s full of arty concepts and such. This single and Sleepyhead (Neo Tokyo remix here) are all over the net. This remix is hypnotic disco. You know, an adequate music video would be a girl - possibly under the effect of some weird narcotics - on a crowded dancefloor with headphones on listening to this. Or this concept was already done? Whatever. I like the rework, we are gonna continue to show love for Burns. As for Passion Pit…let’s see.

UK DISKO!

Wednesday, February 25th, 2009

Linus Loves sent us the new single from Burns called Disko. Last time we checked on him he put out his mix for 2k9. Btw he remixed stuff like Late of the Sun and Empire of the Pier. For me, they are kinda in the same league with GRUM sound-wise. Great to see these UK producers creating their sound with the same energy and talent as their Aussie or French contemporaries. Disko is what it’s name suggests: a twisted nu-disco hymn song that’s gonna keep the crowd on a dancefloors for a while. Clubs, get ready for the new hit! No wonder, that Burns got in to Radio 1’s Annie Mac’s picks for 2009.

Speaking of the UK, Neo Tokyo was from there but now it seems he relocated to Paris according to his myspace. Nevertheless, after his awesome remixes, he now sent us his new original track titled Because You Left. I think it kinda goes well with the Burns track, that’s why I dared to put them in one post. The nu-electro of the Britts manifest in them nicely. This song is more of a banger than the previous one, more on the line of Tronik Youth and stuff. Great distortion, amiga synths and the chopped vocals are always good to hear.

Be Careful the Sun Will Burns You

Monday, December 8th, 2008

burnsLinus Loves just hit us up with the latest effort by AustraliaEngland-based Burns, whose been churning out quite a few of late. This time he turns the laptop dial onto Aussie Nick Littlemore’s Empire of the Sun. BTW Littlemore should totally name it Empire of Australia since between that act and Pnau and all the other stuff he’s like in like 30% of the country’s exports. But i digress.

We Are the People builds up slowly but takes on a low key back bump that works up the original well. It then transitions into a smooth fade out which doesn’t let go of the bass. Nice.

We’ll probably see a lot more coming out from Burns as he’s on Mylo’s and Linus Loves’ Breastfed label.
