Kris Menace Shoots Bag Raiders Outta the Park/Galaxy

Tuesday, August 4th, 2009

The Bag Raiders Shooting Stars is undoubtedly one of the classics of the late ‘00 era. As such, a lot of remixes were attempted  but most didn’t really add anything or take it anywhere. Kris Menace however knocked it out of the park/galaxy/other-space-metaphor. Smoothed and stretched out… it grabs the hold of that build-up/release moment in the original, carves it up, and spreads it across all 6 minutes for a ride on the highway when the grooves align with the tires.

It’ll be released on a single next week by Modular in collaboration with Bang Gang 12 inches.  The Bag Raiders are now in can’t stop, won’t stop territory. They’re rocking their homeland in support of the album this month but undoubtedly will be in Europe/USA before long again.

Bag Raiders Ready to Jump the Aussie Ship

Wednesday, November 5th, 2008

Another of our ‘catch up’ posts. Last time we checked in with the Bag Raiders in May, they were dropping some edit work on fellow Aussie’s the Galvatrons… this time around, bring on the originals! Turbo Love throbs in a Juggernauts-esque fashion, but lassos in some Danger/Chromeo flavor to round out the fun. And ‘fun’ i think best categorizes the ‘Raiders — they won’t build up or break down any walls or genres or sounds or whatever, but that don’t mean they can’t bring the party.

Speaking of bringing the party, it looks like they’ll be making their inaugural Asia visit in December to support the new single, which means that Europe is probably not that far off!  Btw we dig Shooting Stars too.

the galvatrons and bag raiders show Melbourne and Sydney can get along afterall

Thursday, May 22nd, 2008

The Aussie revolution marches on with The Galvatrons, straight outta Melbourne, yo. The self described “four maverick, interstellar transformers from a future vortex … of disco fist-pumping, 80s prom night bashes and Hollywood endings for bespectacled misfits” are on the rampage down under, getting hype from all the prerequisite hype sources. Although i wonder, would the Galvatrons and the Killers agree that When We Were Kids takes place at the same time as When You Were Young? I’m not sure, other than to say there’s a lot of youth remembering these days.

Remixed by the Bag Raiders from rival Sydney-town — gives the original some extra dance punch and reinforces the notion that their music producers are now happy to go AUSSEE ON AUSSEE to trump France and facilitate World Music Takeover for the ‘roos (and yes i’m looking at you Midnight Juggernauts remixing Cut Copy… not fair).
