Fan Death Playing With Delirium

Monday, November 3rd, 2008

We all know now that Ladyhawke’s debut is gonna be among many top10s of blog end-year-lists. Her new single is gonna come out on the 9th of December (check the video for it) with 10 tracks and like 6 remixers. One of them is Fan Death who made an fan deathinstant buzz as soon as their first tracks came out. Although, if you’re not familiar with the latter let me bring you up to speed. Fan Death is two girls from the US who make music like Glass Candy. Retro-future and disco revolution but with the added art-y twist: the over-dramatized vocals and attitude. It’s almost like a theatre pay: two actresses in the 3-part drama featuring the goddess called ‘Disco’. I guess the lyrics support this: full of religious allusions and mystery symbols. With Erol Alkan behind them (The Long Blondes split up anyway…), this can’t go wrong. The remix of Ladyhawke’s My Delirium made the original slower and smoother, I’d say they covered it with blood-coloured velvet. Thanks to Ohh Crapp for another awesome Monster Mixtape.

One Day We’re Gonna Live in Paris

- which could be the motto for every taft-punker and bedbanger-loving electro-kid around the world around the world but no, it’s a line from the reissued and (surprisingly) the old Friendly Fires single as well. Oh man, I love the Firendly Fires. So gentle, elegant and devinely ethereal. The disco in heaven.paris

Other than the Firendly Fires, the reissue features reissued vocals: meaning that there’s just a hint a male singing on the new one, the vocals are done by Erika from Au Revoir Simone. And FF couldn’t have chosen better, this voice is actually so perfect that they should join their bands to Au Revoir Fires.

The third bonus, if I may, are Aeroplane who did a really cool job remixing the song. It reminds me of Hercules and the Love Affair or something ‘authentic disco’. You know, Aeroplane is the Belgian two-piece who has the Whispers single and who remixed Fool for Love, The Shortwave Set, etc and they are quite close to the whole new disco sound of Valerie and some Australians.
