Midnight Conspiracy
Jingling atmospherically at the beginning, the new remix of Chicago’s Midnight Conspiracy takes on Tiga and makes good use of some guilty-pleasure masters, such as Rick Astley. The guys mention him by name and the track delivers: Midnight Conspiracy succeed in transforming the original “What You Need” into an uplifiting early eurodisco anthem. I have to admit, I kinda hate Tiga, however, Midnight Conspiracy’s remix is much better than the original. It has a better mood, a greater feel to it. More fun than glamour. No wonder, the trio is on fire: having remixed Crystal Castles, Chromeo and Esser besides Tiga, they have now enough under their belt to be on the road to hipster heaven. The back-to-’87 “What You Need” is an exceptionally great rework of the original and conveys some sense of conceptual and thoughtful production without losing anything of the fun part. This track was meant for cheesy beach parties.
