Remember Modjo and DJ Spiller? I suppose you do. I have a feeling our near future will be semi-dominated by that sound. It’s kinda blowing my mind that the year 2000 is now retro but i guess all present and future is destined to become so as well. Anyhow, if memory serves (BIG presumption), these songs got ‘hella big’ around the same time that summer which is probably why they blend seamlessly from one to the next in my brain. It was a summer when boy bands were still big and there were so many of them that they could in fact compete with one another. Backstreet Boys, N’sync, Boyzone, Five, Take That, O-Zone and on and on. I also have a memory from summer 2000 that everyone was ‘feeling pretty good about life’, probably cos we all survived the Y2K bug unharmed. It was also just pre-911 and pre-Bush — so innocence still had a place to call home. I think it found a warm and cozy home within the vast expanse of Sophie Ellis Bextor’s melon.

Fast forward 9 years and now we all know what waterboarding is and have seen lots of videos of dead people on youtube related to terror and wars. It makes my simplistic boy band brain wanna explode. So ‘bring it on’ Modjo and Sophie — time to ‘rediscover tomorrow’, as the kunkers like to say.

Not sure if ‘nu-disco’ (as BBC and some others have coined it) will stick or exactly what it is — however i am sure that most apocalypses begin when groups of smiling sweaty shirtless men packed in tiny spaces begin dancing in close proximity (a minute or so in to the vid). In this case, you can bet that this version of the apocalypse will not be bereft of dudes getting their fabulous on. Twitter to the hand, girlfriend!
