Earthquake - Heartbreak

June 2nd, 2009

I just realized that we haven’t been really posting about UK diva, Little Boots. Although Brandon played the Fake Blood remix of Stuck on Repeat countless times for example. Maybe it’s because everyone else did and they were faster. Hype little bootsworks in mysterious ways. Nevertheless, now that she’s gonna have her debut album, entitled Hands out soon I decided it deserves a post because it’s good. I mean it’s ok. I probably won’t listen to it as much as Ladyhawk’s. The two girls are similar in many senses but there’s one really huge difference: Little Boots is much more theatrical. Once you’ll listen to the variety of songs and sounds on Hands you’ll understand. She has this ultimate diva attitude, like a combination of an actress, a singer, a decadent aristocrat-lady and a hooker. The album is full of her show-personality and the themes of love, relationships, breakups, etc dominate it of course. Sound-wise, I can hear Annie, Lykke Li, Yelle, maybe Kylie Minogue working behind her as influences. She’s one of this line of female vocals over the new electro, 80s-driven disco stuff. It’s pretty common nowadays and the blogworld knows it most (think of La Roux, The Golden Filter…). So the album is fun to listen to, it has some depth and the many-many remixes that it provoked will continue I guess. One of my favourite tracks (besides Earthquake) is Hearts Collide. It’s beautiful and atmospheric, kinda coming from an enclosed ghost-world of lost loves and dead lovers. And it reminds me of the theatrical songs of The Pierces.
