The Presets remixed by Heartbreak

The new single and the video for If I Know You are all over the blogosphere now. Of course, being conscious of this I felt no purpose for another post. This had been the situation until this morning when I found a post of Modular with a free download: the Heartbreak remix of the track. Heartbreak are a duo from London and are apparently italo-freaks. I quite like their debut Lies with all the conceptual relationship-connotations. However, it’s a bit heavier than a lot of you would expect from the 80s space, Moroder influence. They have the new-wave darkness too. This is one reason why they are so perfect in remixing The Presets, the whole atmosphere just comes together: there’s the dark, nearly tribal, smoothly stomping disco of the original with some sadness around it and the remix adds a new layer of neurosis with the new rhythm pattern, bass and monotonia.

Here’s the Modular write-up for the new single:

“The next single by The Presets is If I Know You, and it comes correct with a clutch of fine remixes by the likes of UK housemeister Tom Middleton, Israeli techno lord Chaim (p.s. do you think that is his real name or a tribute to Corey Haim?), former Depeche Mode, Yazoo & Erasure producer Vince Clarke, plus a stunning cover version by Tania & Jori [Via Tania & Jori Hulkkonen] and an alternate version by The Presets themselves.

Here however, is the remix by London italo house duo Heartbreak, a throbbing, old skool italo electro take on one of the more sombre moments on Apocalypso.

Enjoy, you heard it here first.”
