The Photo Atlas
February 24th, 2009A band from Denver, The Photo Atlas is a four-piece indie-rock outfit who dance on the borders between indie, emo and electro. First EP was out in 2006, it was followed by the debut LP No, Not
Me, Never a year after and this year they are gonna release a new EP with the title To Silently Provoke the Ghost. This new EP is promising although I felt with their album that they capture their own sound better in single track lenght than with longer stuff. Broadcasting Feedback was definetly a highlight of the record. I mentioned emo but of course, it’s not like we have a teen-band for androgynous goth-esque boys who like to experiment with each other and suicide. On the contrary, their influences are more authentic like punk stuff and I could cite At the Drive-in maybe. The other interesting aspect of their sound is the Raputre-ish dance-aesthetics. Fueled by post-punk anger, their rhythm section is quite awesome, synths are tasteful and the songs pull, push and drag like hurricanes and sometimes the guitars come in like washing everything else away. Keep an eye out for the EP out in April.
