Franz Ferdinand Are Back
January 11th, 2009Nearly 4 years after their great You Could Have It So Much Better, Franz Ferdinand return to a music scene that has changed a lot. Naturally, the question is if they can remain exciting, relevant, etc in 2009. They’ve been working on the
new album since 2007 and the long work came to an end, album is gonna be released on 26th January on Domino (pre-order here). I’m kinda undecided about the album yet. It’s interesting, to say the least. You can smell, taste and touch the night-time decadent sexiness. New sounds, new experiments. More dancey and more alt-disco stuff on the record but it’s smoothly integrated into the post-punk atmosphere of the record. African dub, glam and old-school synths twist the nu British invasion which was only new in 2004 but you know, 60s pop and post-punk are and will be cool. Of course, they know how to handle dance music, if you heard their Air or LCD Soundsystem cover, you know what I mean. And they were remixed by Justice, Erol Alkan, Daft Punk and Hot Chip for god’s sake! This list is so heavy and that means FF have it in their music. On this album, they just rely on it more. On the other hand, I feel that the album falls apart. Maybe the twists, turns and experiments just break the pop integrity some times. Or maybe I just need a couple more listens, who knows. You should certainly listen to it and buy the record. On Tonight: Franz Ferdinand, the band does everything to keep their indie alive and kicking and still find their unique way to do it.
