Rounding up Kunkmail: #1 Mr. Vega
September 12th, 2008I think I can speak for both of us when I say that we are so surprised and flattered that a lot of you musicians out there send us stuff for review. However with the mostly 1post/day speed we can’t keep up with it and usually we can’t do more. Now is a special day and I’m gonna start with Mr. Vega and move through the stuff I like. It’s not gonna be the newest tracks but who cares?
Brooklyn’s Jay Vega has already appeared here with the edits of Justice and The Kills
which were quite awesome. In addition now he takes on LA Priest and DFA1979. These are the only tracks he put out so far so shit’s hot. Pay attention. These new edits are the same sound (not meaning that they are boring but they certainly have something common that holds them together). Actually, the LA Priest one (btw where is LA Priest nowadays?) is best described as fever-disco. Fever as when someone’s ill or something. Has this surreal illness-vibe to it. The DFA is an interesting remix. Sounds really cool and it has a speeded-up marching rhythm. Don’t listen to it too many times in a row cause it’ll make you nervous without reason.
